Auditing is "spiritual counseling which is the central practice of Dianetics and Scientology", and it was developed by L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology. During auditing, a person trained in auditing listens and gives auditing commands to a "preclear" - the person that is audited. All communications during auditing are confidential.

Auditing is the Scientology confession.

I have a question about E-meter device. The auditor uses a device known as an electro-psychometer, or E-meter. They say that it measures mental mass and energy. It consists of 2 metal cylinders that are held in each hand, both of which are attached by wires to the E-meter.
How is this device different from a simple galvanometer?

Inside the E-meter device, there are some transistors, and many resistors, and that makes the device a little more complicated then the simple galvanometer. The movement of the E-meter scale is designed to bounce around a lot, it is intentionally made unstable to produce extra data for the auditor to interpret. Without the trained interpreter, the data from the E-meter device is useless. Just as the disclaimer on the device says: "By itself, this meter does nothing.''
